Anthony Hopkins Joins “Thor”

Anthony Hopkins has been cast in “Thor,” the Marvel Studios production that begins production in January.
Hopkins will play Odin, the king of Asgard and the father of Thor and Loki. Chris Hemsworth is playing Thor, and Tom Hiddelston plays his nemesis, Loki. The pic is directed by Kenneth Branagh. Read more
Charlize Theron to star in Mad Max

Charlize Theron is revving up for “Mad Max: Fury Road,” with producer-director George Miller set to start filming next August in Australia.
British actor Tom Hardy (“Black Hawk Down”) will also star opposite Theron.. Thesps are the first major castings announced in the fourth version of the futuristic “Mad Max” franchise, which has been dormant for 2½ decades. Read more

Squeezing another pint of blood from its torture-porn corpus, Lionsgate slays again with “Saw VI,” a film so frighteningly familiar it could well be called “Saw It Already.” At least the requisite moralism is more playful than pious in this edition, whose grotesque punishments extend even to a man guilty of cigarette smoking. Serial not only in terms of killing, the “Saw” franchise has essentially become a gory soap opera, its die-hard viewership addicted to following the entangled narrative viscera of Jill (Betsy Russell), Det. “This Is It” first day box office tops $20 million

The Michael Jackson movie “This Is It” earned $20.1 million at worldwide box offices on its first day in theaters as fans around the globe turned out in strong numbers, a Columbia Pictures spokesman said on Thursday.
The ticket sales broke down to $7.4 million in the United States and Canada, and another $12.7 million internationally with United Kingdom box offices ringing up just under $2 million and French sales of about $1.4 million, said the movie studio. Read more
