2009 Academy Awards Nominees List

The 2009 Academy Awards were announced today. Brad Pitt’s latest movie “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” nabbed the most nods – 13 total. In a close second, the sleeper hit of the year “Slumdog Millionaire” scored 10 nominations.

Nominations for the 81st Oscars, were announced Thursday morning at Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences h.q. in BevHills by Acad prexy Sid Ganis and Forest Whitaker.

The omission of Clint Eastwood from the Best Actor category and Gran Torino from any of the major categories certainly stands out, as does the absence of Slumdog Millionaire’s Dev Patel from the Best Supporting Actor group. Slumdog did rack up 10 total nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Danny Boyle. The inclusion of The Reader in the Best Picture category is a huge surprise, and an especially disappointing one for fans of The Dark Knight.

The Oscars will be presented Feb. 22 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. The show, produced by Laurence Mark and exec produced by Bill Condon, will be hosted by Hugh Jackman and air live on ABC-TV.
