Billy Bob Thornton is the New Freddy Krueger

Billy Bob Thornton is the New Freddy Krueger

Back in January we told you that Nightmare on Elm Street was going to be remade.  We’ve been waiting to hear who would play the role of Freddy Krueger.

Billy Bob Thornton has landed the nightmarish film role.

The Bad Santa actor will play Freddy Krueger in a remake of the 1980s Wes Craven horror franchise Nightmare On Elm Street. Thornton is set to take over the role from actor Robert Englund, who played Freddy in the original eight films. And he’s got Englund’s approval!

Robert said he thought Billy Bob was an “excellent choice.”

“A big budget should mean the film will look a lot better than some of the old movies,” Robert reportedly added.

In the films Freddy Krueger is a serial killer who terrorises teenagers in their dreams.

Billy Bob should know a thing or two about fear and paranoia, as he apparently suffers from bizarre phobias of antique furniture, Komodo Dragons and silver cutlery.

He was once reported as saying: “I won’t use real silver. You know, like the big, old, heavy-a** forks and knives, I can’t do that. It’s the same thing as the antique furniture. I just don’t like old stuff. I’m creeped out by it, and I have no explanation why.”

Do you think Billy Bob is a good choice to play the role of Freddy?

We do! He kind of creeps us out in real life. He’ll be perfect for the role.
