Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” Soundtrack Review
December 2, 2009

Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” movie will be released nationwide on December 11th (it began a limited release in NY and LA on November 25th), and we were delighted to receive a copy of the movie’s soundtrack for review.
“The Princess and the Frog” is a musical animated comedy set in New Orleans. The creators of “The Little Mermaid” and “Aladdin” have added a modern twist on a classic tale, featuring a beautiful girl named Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again, and a fateful kiss that leads them both on a hilarious adventure through the mystical bayous of Louisiana. “The Princess and the Frog” marks the return to hand-drawn animation from the revered team of John Musker and Ron Clements, with music by Oscar-winning composer Randy Newman (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Cars,” “Toy Story”).
The sounds of jazz, Zydeco, blues and Gospel provide the musical setting for the film. Some songs are mellow, others are fun, and overall the album is a great listen. We highly recommend this soundtrack CD for anyone who plans on watching “The Princess and the Frog” when it arrives in theaters, but we also think the soundtrack is fun to listen to on its own.
We especially love the heartfelt love ballad, “Never Knew I Needed”, Ne-Yo’s pop theme song from the soundtrack. This song is well on its way to becoming one of the top slow dance songs of the year. Now, Ne-Yo, who is a multi-platinum, 3-time Grammy Award-winning singer, just released a new version of the video featuring footage from the upcoming film. For your enjoyment, here is the video.
The soundtrack for Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” is so enjoyable and fantastic. The setting is particularly important to the movie and the music sets the tone perfectly. It is available in stores right now, so pick up your copy today!
