Kevin Smith’s Banned-in-the-US ‘Porno’ Poster

It was just yesterday that we put up the red band trailer for “Zack and Miri Make A Porno” on here.  Today, we got the news that Kevin Smith’s one-sheet for the movie has been banned in the US, but not in Canada. 

At first glance, the poster looks innocent enough, even despite the word porno being in the title.  I guess the MPAA thinks this poster is too racy for general moviegoers to see because it implies that Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks are giving each other oral sex (albeit, while fully clothed which is confusing more than it is funny).  Canadians will be able to stare at this poster all they want; Americans will just get to see whatever censored version they decide to put out next.

So do you think this poster is too much for American audiences to handle? 

Smith told EW, “When you’ve got the word ‘porno’ in the title, naturally, the marketing materials are gonna be scrutinized more closely by the MPAA, I understand they’ve got a job to do, but c’mon…this image isn’t that dirty; they’re both fully clad.”

I feel inclined to be on Smith’s side in this argument. I laughed when I read his comments about the banned poster because his argument is that the poster isn’t that dirty.

Kevin will just have to come up with another dirty poster that hopefully slips by the MPAA.
