Tim Burton Making A Movie About Sleeping Beauty Villain

The execs at Disney are doing their best to have Tim Burton continue to churn out movies for them. Burton’s Alice in Wonderland isn’t even out yet and there are rumors about his next project. Burton’s next project might have him putting his unique take on Sleeping Beauty. However, he wants to tell the story from the villain’s, Maleficent’s, point of view. In fact, it’ll be called “Maleficent.”

She was always the most interesting character in that story, but we never knew why she hated those three little fairy wenches or what indignity she suffered at the hands of Aurora’s parents. She has quite a tale to tell.

Apparently, Burton’s planned adaptation of the cult TV series Dark Shadows has hit a few stumbling blocks, so the Maleficent project wouldn’t be just one of those dream projects that Burton talks up and never gets around to. We know Disney is trying to project a hipper image these days and draw in more than just the typical princess fans– is a reboot of a classic fairy tale the way to go? With Burton on board, it’s at least the kind of risk they might be willing to take.
